In Memory - Nena
2014 - 2025
Nena (no middle or surname) was only with us for less than two years. She was eight years-old when we got her, so it could have been much longer but Cancer took another one from us. She was part Australian Cattle Dog (aka Blue Heeler), part Jack Russell Terrier. She had one ear from each breed, the Blue Heeler coat and body shape, and the Jack Russell coloring (mostly). She was a very sweet dog and we really miss her.

With those two breeds, I'm sure she was a handful in her younger days, but by the time Nena came into our home, she was very mellow. The only time that she ever barked was 3 or 4 times as a warning shot to Stowy. She would patiently wait for us to tell her what task needed to be done next, but with no cattle to be herded or foxes to be hunted, her main role was getting the crumbs off the kitchen floor. That didn't occupy much of the day, so once she was sure we were settled down, she would relax. That is why all the photos of her are of the rug and the animal-only futon.

Once again, Stowaway had to negotiate space on the futon. Nena was much bigger than Monarch or Maico. She was very cautious at first until she realized Nena was quite passive except for when she got near her food dish.
