Part 2: The Tiger that Got Away
As a newbie to CMA and New Life in particular, I was trying to see where I would fit, or perhaps it's better to say where God would lead me. I bought a small
street bike with the thought that I would be able to go on group rides and attend rallies, something I had never done before, unless two riders is considered
a group and a Motocross race is considered a rally.
I became aware of Fast Lane while I was still going through the CMA training in 2024. Fast Lane is essentially every type of motorcycling that isn't Cruisers
and Touring Bikes. This includes racing and off-road, my natural motorcycle environments.
My first Fast Lane outing was in January of 2025. I rode the Triumph to a CMA Fast Lane Pop-Up that was about forty-minutes away from home. On this day,
we talked with several people about the CMA, one who seemed quite interested, and there were many friendly waves from passing cars. It was well worth a few hours
in the Arizona dust.
There was also a lesson about my motorcycle. It was apparent as soon as I got on the gravel road. Riding a street bike with street tires was a low traction
situation when you sped up, slowed down, or turned. Other than that, it was fine. My idea of riding it on relatively smooth dirt roads did not sound so good after that.
